It was pointed out to me recently that I have never explained the story behind the name of my business. So… I thought I would tell you about it. 🙂
When I first started my business, I named it Chastidyi Photography. It was easy, and it seemed like the way most of the photographers named their businesses. Then, I realized how much trouble people were having with the name because of how my first name is spelled (not something I thought about when starting the business). I attended a Creative Revival Pro workshop a few years ago that made me rethink a lot of things about my business–including the name.
It took a good month or so of doodles and talking it over with my husband and anyone else who would listen before I finally came up with Star Noir Studio. The star comes not only from the fact that I love stars (which you have probably figured out if you’ve known me any length of time) but also from the idea that everyone that steps in front of a camera can be a star. The noir got thrown in to evoke the idea of the oneiric, dream-like quality of film noir. Finally, I decided on studio instead of photography because I wanted to have the option to offer more than photography in the future–design, invitations, storybooks, handmade albums, etc. Thus, Star Noir Studio was born!
If you are wondering about pronunciation, (if you didn’t have any high school French, noir may be a funky word for you), I’m going to lend a syllabic hand to you… noir is pronounced [nwar].
